A variety of security features help restrict access and protect sensitive data, including two kinds of hard-drive overwrite functionality, a hardware integration pocket for installing optional card readers, user authentication, and support for SSL/TLS for secure data transfers. And thanks to its higher than average daily scan volume and ADF capacity, users can process more documents in a day than with competitive network scanners tested. The unit also offers a very easy to use full-colour touch-screen display complete with access to scan profiles, settings and destinations. But its productivity is not the only reason for the Scanjet Enterprise 8500 fn1’s “Pick” status. In fact, the unit surpassed its rated speed of 60 ppm by about 12% in both its colour and black-and-white modes. The HP Scanjet Enterprise 8500 fn1 Document Capture Workstation proved to be the fastest network scanner BLI has tested. In addition, over a three-year period, the Ngenuity 9150 offers a lower than average total cost of ownership and lower than average estimated cost per scan. The unit also handles a wider range of paper weights and lengths than competitive devices, and offers a larger than average document feeder capacity. The Ngenuity 9150 exhibited the most accurate overall OCR results of any scanner tested, and demonstrated significantly faster than average speeds when scanning at 200 dpi. “The enhancements made to the Ngenuity 9150 build on the solid foundation recognized in BLI’s previous tests, and help showcase the excellent image quality achievable at the production level,” said Lisa Reider, BLI’s senior product editor for scanners.
Kodak also improved the unit’s consumables, with a new feed separation roller, which supports an ultra-lightweight feeder kit, and Kodak-branded replacement consumables that help lower the total cost of ownership.
